When you ask "what happened to this guy" - is that a metaphorical question, as in what happened to the Neil Young that was part of the soundtrack of my youth? - because as far as I'm concerned, he hasn't gone anywhere. He still puts out great albums, his sold out shows kic kass, whether he is performing solo or with Crazy Horse, and he's still an inspiration to the new generation of musicians.
Neil Young is a ****ing American (or Canadian) treasure, and I'm not the only one that feels this way.
Compare Bob Dylan or The Stones to Neil Young; still prolific writers and still selling out concert halls, but I will take Neil over Bob or the glimmer twins any day.
If I missed the OP's point, I apologize;
I just saw him perform again this summer, and he is still as relevant as ever.
