I am not so sure you have a catastrophic failure. The banging/clanging noise could be just from the car running WAY off.....
Have you checked the obvious culprits first?
~oil level & integrity
~do you have good gas? (hi-octane/fresh)
~speed and reference sensors in place/in tact?
~proper sensor grounding (all)?
~correct fuel flow/pressure?
