They are comparing the Police model to the 870 Express. The 870 Express is a substantially down-graded 870, with cheesy cast parts in the action and plastic everywhere. Compared to the old, original, un-compromised 870, it's a cheap POS. "Built to a price point" indeed. All Remington has done is to return the 870 to close to its original quality of manufacture (but not quite all the way - the original used no cast parts in the action - everything was machined) for the police market, who apparently don't like the cheapened version foisted upon sportsmen.

Sad thing is is that the plastic trigger housing is claimed to be stronger.
My old 870 express had aboult 1k worth of shot down it. nothing failed
