Porsche Crest DME Diagnostics Question

So if I'm right, these cars are OBD1 and as long as I have a diagnostics tool, I can connect to the computer somehow (where ever that connection point is) and have the car tell me itself, whats wrong, yes?

I'm getting a Blue-Point YA-3140 since it says I can update it to accept any car and has the connectors I need for any make out there. It also reads OBD-I and OBD-II systems.
Would that work with 944s?

Also, is there an FSM or PET somewhere that translates the codes from a 944's DME? I don't know any of the codes off hand sooooo... yea, I'm kinda a sitting duck at the moment lol

As for the diagnostic tool, do you all think it is a good buy or is there something else out there just as good for 339USD or less? I've also been told I can reset the code so if any warning lights are on, I can make them go away once the problem has been fixed.
