Red Bull Glory Glide 2009. World No.1 Hang Glider Jon Durand fulfils a lifelong dream to surf the rare phenomenon known as the Morning Glory Cloud. Found only in the Gulf of Carpentaria in Far North Queensland, Australia, this 'shockwave' or 'roll-cloud' phenomenon occurs sporadically from July to Nov and can be 1000km long and travel at up to 80km/h. Pictured here, Jon soars above the leading edge of the cloud over the sparse deserts and coastal mudflats surrounding Burketown, keeping clear of the turbulent sink found on the rear side of the roll-cloud.=)χ
