POR-15 makes a High Temp paint, we did some testing with it where I work. Not as good as some of other coatings we sell but then again they're baking enamels, etc.. I've haven't driven the car since I redid the muffler so I can't give a testimonial on it. I sand blasted the metal first and I think it will work well for this application.
On the Bursch paint quality, like a prior post mentioned I'm guessing the surface prep is minimal (oily surface and no chemical etching, etc..) and the paint quality (Dumpster Paint) is about the same. Mfg's can get decent quality, you'd just have to pay more.
