Being a firefighter in a downtown area and hiking hundreds of stairs with equipment has not helped I'm sure. Thanks in advance

In my late 20s I injured my leg/knee playing basketball (fractured tibia). After a 6 month cast/rehab I returned to the court and immediately upon a quick, lateral move, my knee "blew out". Orthopedic surgeon performed an arthroscopy on my knee and discovered a torn ACL (atrophied beyond repair), torn meniscus, and other minor mess. He removed the ACL and "cleaned out" everything and I was walking fine the next day with no pain, etc. 23 years later, I don't have an ACL, but sports as I knew them back then were over. However, I've never had any issues and walking, cycling, steps, etc. are what I've done for exercise ever since, but anything with lateral stress on my knee is OVER (even with a custom knee brace). I'm sure their instruments/techniques are even better now...good luck!
edited: ps: I forgot to add that I did an intense, 9 month physical therapy at a facility designed for pro athletes to strengthen the muscles to "make up" for the missing ACL and I think that has been key to my recovery.
