There's not even any lock post rust I can find. the paint is smooth as glass and a magnet sticks the whole way down on both sides.

Dan that is how I justified the purchase of a MIG welder! My first 911 was a '72 with a rusted out suspension pan. Drilled the old spot welds out and spot welded in the new one after practicing a bit on a couple of old steel real estate signs. I probably had 20 hours into the project.
