To follow-up on Chris' comments....
for the ~80's and later cars for US.....the VIN is a label affized to the door jamb just below the latch plate...and...the riveted plate I showed before on the driver's side A-pillar. The raised panel on the trunk floor next to the smugglers box will have similar numbers....but is NOT the VIN number for USA cars !....in the middle are ZZZ which won't match the VIN. The trunk chassis number will have identical numbers before and after the ZZZ numbers in the middle, compared to the VIN.
