There were 3 series of the Boxer. The one Clapton wrecked was of the first series. It has a carb'd 4.4L flat-12. The easy identifying characteristics are the three tail lights and three exhaust pipes on each side. These are fairly highly prized now, having a more raw feel. They like revs, more than the later cars, and are a little louder.
The next two series were both 5L flat -12's, the first with carbs and the last with fuel injection. They were still quick, if not as fun to drive.
