Update on Spencer from CaringBridge / spencershores / Welcome --
The surgery to remove the eye went well and the Doc said the magic word "CURED". He has to have some radiation. This is a quote from April from Wed Oct 27...

"Surgery went well yesterday as they put in the cone with the brachytherapy (radioactive seeds typically used for prostate cancer). Dr. A (eye doc) said the eye orbit looked great and there might not be a need for any cleaning once we remove the cone on Friday. Wouldn't that be great! All we would have to do is change the bandage daily.

Overall, Spencer is doing great! We are in our radioactive room that has a lead wall that seperates us from Spencer so we don't get too much radiation. The physicist (sp?) found us one that has a thick plexi-glass top that protects us as much as the lead so Spencer can see us through the glass. I am allowed to touch him some and help him pee, get into bed, etc... Honestly, I am with him more than I should be but whatever! I am not snuggling with him in bed so I figure the time I am with him, touching him and playing with him can't do too much damage If I were going to have more kids I would be more cautious but there is no way in hell I would risk going through this again so that is not an option! (sorry Mimi and PopPop )

Spencer is in a little pain so he is getting some morphine right now and his spirits already seem to be better.

The plan is to have surgery early Fri morning to remove the cone and seeds, go to recovery and probably see the docs and be discharged. We have a ton of packing to do and then we fly home Saturday! 3 more days...we can do this!

My sweet boy just told me that he is starting to feel better and he was afraid to tell me his eye was hurting because he thought they would remove it again. Poor thing! But he is finally chatting and playing Wii with Mike! "

The CaringBridge site has a pic of Spencer playing in Central Park, NYC.

We all wish Mike, April and Spencer a happy homecoming !!!

Take care,
Roy
