I don't know if things are different on a 78, but if there are plugs for relays on the other side for relays I think you've reversed the installation. The relays are usually in the trunk compartment behind the instruments. The relays are for blinkers emergency brake flashers etc. As far as I know there are no relays in the passenger compartment.
