Drug dealers and hookers do not make an area high crime. There are drug dealers and hookers in Beverly Hills. I can introduce you to them.
I remember in the 70's and 80's. On Hollywood Blvd you had legions of runaways kids, lots of drugged crazies, but just petty crime. On Sunset you had to run a gaunlet of hookers from Loz Feliz to Beverly Hills. If you stopped for any reason, you had 2 or 3 at your windows.
But a high danger area? Not for 20 years at least. Unpleasant, distrubing and dirty, yes. But not a high risk of violent crime. Look at the statistics.
If you think Hollywood is dangerous now or in the near past, then try to visit the slums of South America or Asia and Africa. There are some highly exicting places in the world, but Hollywood is not one of them.
