I bet a little youtube search could bring up a comparison video from the past. I would do it myself, but I can't from work.
Personally, I don't see the BMW being much faster on the track as a 944s, if at all.
From the limited seat time I've had, the M3 from the 80s were more stiffly sprung than the 944, and maybe not as sophisticated suspension wise.
