Zorba was the boss at a mine. He befriended the workers. He treated them as equals. At the end of the day he served them cool water from a bucket. They grew to disrespect him. Ultimately they defied his leadership and the mine failed.
His conclusion was that you can be a boss or be a worker. You can't be both.
