I have been going back and forth over this for about a year now. I can afford it. I have no real bills. I also have no other real hobbies other than old dillapidated Porsches. I dont golf, I don't watch sports. I don't drink, I don't have a Harley, or a mistress. I live pretty frugal. I have not had a car loan for 15 years. The last one was the purchase of my SC which I still have, and it is still worth what I paid for it. The 930 will theoretically be the same way.
I have my lady's approval, but she says that it is a lot of money for a car that I will realistically drive 5 times a year. My reply was that I am buying this car at the bottom of the market, and that in 5 years , it will still be worth the same , or more than I paid for it. Most people pay the same money for their new caravan, or jeep, and it plummets in value while they are paying it off.
I sort of reason that this will be an investment, but I know the reality of owning an old Porsche. I do however maintain my own cars, so even a catastrophic engine failure will not be as taxing to me as it would to a guy who has to pay a shop. Actually , that would be quite enjoyable experience for me. I have the storage space.
For some reason, though, I feel a little guilty for buying a toy of this caliber for myself , but you know what.... I work hard, have been for 20 years, and will continue for at least the next 10. I am not getting any younger, and really feel I need to start checking things off my bucket list. A 930 is one of the last ones on that list. I have made good decisions, and been smart with what little funds I have had available all my life. My business is booming, and my side business is also doing very well.
Any good reasons why I should not do this ?
I have posted about this before, and I dont want to beat a dead horse, but I think I am ready to pull the trigger. Any last minute words of wisdom? Can anyone tell me I am being irresponsible and I should be banking money for my kids college fund?( he is only 5)
