(+1 on the bad power supply burning out motherboard after motherboard. Also check what's upstream of that as well(house juice).
Uninterupted power source is cheaper than the headaches.)
As for spam, virus, etc., the least time connected to the internet the better.
They don't fix themselves, and they only partially break themselves(unless it's MS software
