WTF?

I had a tooth flare up not too many years ago and I called my dentist at 8:30 on a Sunday night, crazy with pain (his office answering mach. message finishes with an emergency # and he called me within 10 min. of recieving my page). He said he'd meet me at his office in 40 min. Turns out I needed a root canal, which he then performed.
I felt kinda bad calling him away from his family and thanked him profusely when I got up out of the chair, telling him how amazed I was that he'd come in for me. Thought it was pretty special, but he just laughed and said it's not at all uncommon and insurance companies compensate dentists quite well for emergency service (and that I probably wouldn't be quite as happy when I saw his bill if I had no insurance

).
He even phoned in for Vicodin for me to pick up at the 24 hr pharmacy near me on my way home rather than write a prescription so I wouldn't have to wait longer than necessary.
This ain't the case in your environs?
