Just forget Oragel, oil of cloves, rinses, etx. These only work when you have a huge cavity that the nerve is exposed and you can directly apply it. I don't think this is your case. I have seen patient coming and and sipping cold water when the pain starts intensifying. Call early and get an appointment. Hopefully you have insurance and can get it done. Unless the Endodontist is fully booked, they don't like turning away the chance to Make $1200 for an hours work.
