There are un-numbered cases of all vintages including the aluminum cases.
There are two casting numbers, you've posted 102.3R, on the other side is 101.?R . You may also find some casting dates on both halves like 14/71 the location depends on the year I think. The numbers would help my research. The "R"'s are revisions and can indicate a date plus some internal characteristics.
I agree that an un-numbered case is the most likely possibility. If that is so, then you cannot be sure of what is inside without a teardown.
