he is running this year in a toyota 4 runner.
years ago when toyota racing development decided to put ivan in the middle of the cab and "make" the exterior body panels look "stock", toyota sales of trucks went thru the stratosphere.
having pitted for team honda 2 years while under the supervision of bruce olgilvie(RIP) and "donavan" head of all honda desert racing we had the opportunity to be treated wined and dined like kings by team honda and understand their evil DOMINATION of all thangs off road.
why in hells name does the full race "xr's" and now "crf's" look exactly like a bike on the showroom despite being totally "UNOBTANIUM" for the average smuck?
because idiots who are clueless think they too can win baja with the bike they buy from the freeking showroom. unbeknownst to the average smuck, honda factory bikes are total titanium works of art, that as soon as the race is over and go back to torrance calif, they are torn down,studied, analyzed, and then shoved into a CRUSHER and the parts spread to high hell so the competition never knows what went into them.
the other reason honda is always winning...............they have an entire BOX VAN with (2) complete bikes and all spares, and a mill and a lathe,welder etc at every pitstop spread 40-50 miles away. we were graced with pit duties at MELLING RANCH and you couldnt ask for a better paradise instead of being stuck in some god fersaken POO HOLE ELSEWHERE! the reason 40-50 miles is they dont have to use 5 gal dezert tanks which are an absolute nightmare to make a bike handle in the sand and whoops with that much weight.
ford is introducing their new eco-boost engine this 1000. alot of testing goes on by mfgs. obvious and not so obvious. usually the BIG THREE(chev ferd,dodge) introduce new body styles or engines at these races for the marketing gains which are HUGE despite all of us knowing what you buy off the showroom aint nothing the same as what actually went to baja and actually raced.
