I ran my 944 last winter with dedicated snow tires and I was very impressed with how it would plow right through snow. If you use your head you should be fine. Also, if you need great stopping power, Porsche brakes are excellent so it is a great winter vehicle. Just make sure to run a sprinkler underneath the car occasionally to remove all of that salt/sand that your town/state uses.
