yeah i love my 1894's in .357 and .44 mag. perfect home/castle doctrine. unloading 9/10 rounds of either .44 mag or .357 on a bad guy breaking in doesnt make the news as would an "assault" rifle. which in reality they were and STILL ARE!
the keys to these and any lever gun when buying them new or old. clean them completely. pull bolt out and clean w/q-tips,lubricate, work action while watching orca or ellen and do it until yer hand falls off to work action loose.
wild west guns makes a (1) piece extractor instead of factory (2) piece extractor.
wild west guns makes an aluminum mag tube follower red anodized.
disassemble mag tube, replace with brownells chrome silicone mag spring. clean the hell out of mag tube with swabs and ever so lightly lubricate. on all (4) of our marlins new there was a alot of crap from mfg. still in mag tube. and grit aint good in the mag tube.
wild west guns also does a trigger for these but i opted after shooting all (3) now quite a few rounds to take them into nelsonford thegunsmith.com and have him do his "BETTER BUTTERER MO BETTERER" lever job and they are (1) finger ZERO EFFORT levers and nice crisp triggers w/out any slop.
im still torn btwn the XS sights and the williams sights. crap i have to do (3) of them, so i better get it right. the other 1895XLR already has the leupold 3x9 and its dead nutz and already has a 3x4 elk notched on the handle from my younger sons elk killing spree.(redrum). gawd we loving MURR-DURR-ING ELK.........its a NEANDERTHAL THANG!
as i mentioned before, im still on the lookout for a stainless 336 in .30/.30. what the hell ya cant have enough, especially if n.korea gets uppity and wants to invade airy-zoney! (perfect excuse to use to wifey huh?)
