sometimes pluging the computer in won't do it until you set it up correctly. The problem is it has multiple lines, each line may come to diff rooms. Which room goes with which line? I usually connect one line at a time and take an old phone to plug to each jack in the house to hear the dial tone to be able to tell. Now without a dial tone (no phone service, only DSL), I assume you won't hear anything, even if the line is connected(?)
