That changed with the C5 body. Rates came down, one reason being (I've been told) that the C5 has separate fenders and hood, unlike earlier cars which had them integrated into one expensive piece.
I had a '99 6 spd hardtop (the intended "entry level" model that was the basis for the 2000 ZO6 model). I think I paid about $1250/yr for ins.
I put 78K fun miles on it.
