You need a 914 flywheel to fit the T4 to the 901 gearbox. If you don't use it, then the starter will not engage properly.
I have some concerns about supporting the entire drivetrain by a long "bolt" or a piece of threaded rod. It would be the only means of support for the entire rear of the drivetrain, and the weight would be quite substantial, not to mention the torque. I would try and come up with something a little more in line with the mounting style of the original 912 mount. I would use the bus mount, and weld some extensions on it to come up to the proper height and location in the engine bay.
I will be going through the same conversion over the winter, so hopefully I will work out a good solution by then.
