In the scheme of things, especially in LA, you see $200K cars used as daily beaters. If this were a new Bentley being used as intended, it wouldn't raise an eyebrow. After a couple years of daily use, it would be sold for 40% of the original purchase price and the owner wouldn't bat an eyelash.

Think about it for a second then. Is the value of the Speedster going down? No, it will likely rise. It has a fresh restoration that cost a LOT of money. But if it gets scratched, chipped, or dinged, can't it be redone? And will the cost of re-doing it again someday be less than the depreciation of the Bentley?

A friend/acquaintance vintage races a multi-million dollar Ferrari. He drives HARD. The Ferrari purists think it's blasphemy. In an interview he was asked why he would risk it. He said, "I could never do enough damage that it wouldn't be worth fixing." He thinks it's blasphemy NOT to drive it hard as "that's what Enzo intended."

Ferry too...
The '58 Speedster is a $200k car unless people suddenly lose interest in Speedsters. Not likely. The owner also has a 2011 997 Turbo S, good thing I did not post a picture of that. That would have really upset Paul.

He doesn't care about the depreciation or appreciation of either car. He's just a successful guy who loves cars and can buy anything he wants. (Or at least a million dollars worth or so w/o getting the wife too worked-up). He also has a new Tesla, a real Shelby Mustang and an absolute treasure trove of motorcycles new and old. He had a new Ferrari F-430 but sold it because he was never driving it.

There are people all over the world with expensive possessions. Millions of them. There are people with one weird painting on the wall that is worth more than a hundred '58 Speedsters. Big deal. I just posted the car as an example of what happens when big money and good taste collide head-on. My only (slight) complaint about this Speedster is that it's too restored-looking. I like them with a little patina, like a perfect pair of blue jeans. He'll drive it until it gets there, though. He's still young.
