A huge tip for using a thermos is to put hot water into it for a few minutes before the coffee. I will usually just use hot tap water and let it sit long enough for the coffee to brew. I will make the difference of staying hot for a couple hours or staying hot for day or two. Same w/ ice water for cold drinks.
