Usually, the cv's start to "clunk" when on and off the gas. Could be a wheel bearing. Mine made "whirr" when they went bad. I could get it to go away by turning slightly and unloading the wheel it would change tones. CV are easier on a 79. The later years the outer cv is part of the axle that goes through the wheel. Getting that giant nut off thats torqued to 295 ft lbs is a little beyond the normal 3/8 drive socket kit.
