I had this problem a few years back and you would not believe on what the problem was. The rotor had actually snapped off and it was spinning around and around. How it happen I have no idea. After checking the starter on a bench, swapping the battery & coil, I went to change the distributor cap and found the problem. I think your car wont have this problem but you are surprised on what the solution maybe.
