Hi John,
Just a couple of other things I can think of.
Purging the lines is a good idea, but also if the car has been sat for a while and the tank has some crud in it this has a tendency to sink to the bottom and may interrupt the flow of fuel. Before I?ve just blown compressed air down the line to make sure it's empty. Even after that sometimes the fuel filters will not fill completely up which is not a problem.
If all the wiring is ok, check the charge as described in the manual. I can copy this if you need also check the bushes in the generator.
You will also need the ground from gearbox to chassis. This is normally to the left of the box (looking towards the front. There is a stud on the chassis over which one end of the strap bolts to and the other then bolts to one of the bolts which hold the front nose of the gear box on. See pics
