There is ton of info on this topic if you do a search, but the short story is dirty ground wires at every possible point affected. The fuses and fuse box can use a good clean up to, take them out and clean or replace where needed.
I have had a interesting thing happen when installing a third stop light in my 69. When the engine is cold and running under 600 rpms after a few seconds the double flasher blinking starts, if I rev a bit it stops. To me this is very telling of the problems we all seem to of had. A drop in voltage due to poor grounds or whatever and in my case an extra energy draw will cause the phenomena.
A ground strap is a must for these cars.
