Reports say that this is the largest cache of illegal explosives ever discovered in the hands of a private individual. If that is true, based on what they found prior to deciding that it was too dangerous to continue searching, burning the house down seems logical to me.
Apparently there are multiple federal agencies involved including the FBI and, I've heard, Homeland Security. I'm thinking that their actions will be a prototype upon which they will base there actions in any similar future events that might occur. Seems reasonable; why waste a good training opportunity?
They've already removed a number of trees, fences and vegetation that might catch on fire. Tree huggers are probably discouraged and won't be a problem. A number of them were hugging some of the trees they cut down, refused to let go until the last minute and damn near got mulched by the FBI chipper they threw the trees in.
