I've been doing sprints and hillclimbs since '96,and I can tell you that you learn from every event. In other words, it really doesn't matter what car you start with, you'll be uncompetitive; so use a ready made racecar to learn racecraft with. You can always build a car later having amassed experience and setup knowledge.
