I have a Univalve now (that I've owned for years) and the "honesty" of the pure, Class A tube power is astounding. I've never heard anything like it out of a solid state or modeling amp (and I've owned them, too). Depending on the tubes I install (part of the fun), the harmonics and tone is just incredible.
Amps are like loudspeakers or motor oils, though. Everyone has their favorite. |
I had a Shiva for a couple years - best amp I've ever owned. And I've owned quite a few over the years. I very briefly had an XITS X10 which is a darling of many right now but I frankly didn't dig it. That said, I'm playing so little guitar these days that my ear really isn't interested in that spectrum/tonality.
