Gorgeous that '68. Interesting that white one, with the illuminated side reflectors. My '68 blue Targa just had those little lollipops on the side. BTW, a b&w shot of it is in Excellence (Dec 10) along with Bob Chapman's article on the '70 911E.
Good luck you had that fire under control -amazing! Rolling in Netherlands in '70, my 912 was showing a lot of gas fumes from the back, so I drove to the nearest dealer, who tightened some banjo nuts at the left carb. I was dropping gas on the exhaust and the heat was evaporating it into fumes. Talk about luck.
Two months later in Maryland I was able to put out an engine fire in a 356 with the extinguisher they make you carry in Europe. Advised the stunned owner to get rid of the chemical powder as soon as he got home, and next, buy his own extinguisher.
Still regret that my 912 started rusting so rapidly, but the combination of salt in the US, in Holland, in Germany, that was just to much even for a refreshed, double undercoat.
