"if the company goes belly up you have nothing (has already happened with photo sharing or files storage website businesses). Lastly, how safe is that info from hackers or from Carbonite themselves?

I have been wondering about this too. I was thinking of trying Carbonite...but what if they go away ?? Same with Flickr and other photo sites.

Good point here too by surflvr911sc about potential problems with "on-site" back up:

"I have a network drive that I back-up to, but the problem is that it's on site. If there were a fire and I wasn't able to grab it I'd be screwed. Off site back-up is the only way to guaranty that your data will be safe when the SHTF. I want both. On site for convince, off site for security."
