Interesting. I tried ffmpeg on a couple of different flv files. It always output a file that Windows media player only recognized the audio.

There's not much to the command line ffmpeg -i < input file.flv > < output file.[ desired extension ] >

I even tried adding the "-sameq" tag. For instance, it took a 180mb flv and created a 600+mb avi. When trying to play, all I got was audio. I used one of the gui driven programs suggested above, and out popped a useable file.

I suspect there may have been some more switches/parameters that I needed to feed it, but I don't know what those are.

The good news is that I did end up with a nice DVD to send to my cousin. I included that "Ascent - Commemorating Shuttle" movie that was posted here recently, plus a bunch of vids specifically of the launch/mission that We saw in May. I also included a couple of slideshows, one of NASA photos from the launch, time in orbit, and landing and a second slideshow of the photos that I took of the launch.

I burned an extra copy for myself. It's one of those things that I want to remember and be reminded of later.
