Thank you Valentine 1

We ran some errands today, and because it was nice, we decided to go for a short ride. Our normal "ride" is out to the edge of the booneys and then back. The road curves through an area with a park and a nature preserve and a bunch of undeveloped forest. There are four lanes separated by anywhere from 50-200' of grass, trees, and drainage with a speed limit of 50 and 40mph. It's a pretty, green area. I went to the end of the run, and made a U-turn to head back towards civilization.

There was no one and nothing for me to hit had anything happened, so I ran the turbo up through the first 3 gears. I suspect I probably hit around 80 or 90. Third was the end of my fun, so I was coasting down to a reasonable speed in 5th. Back in the distance I could see the first car behind me was some sort of jacked up pick up truck covered in driving lights and brush/grill/light guards. I could tell in my rear view that he was moving at a pretty good clip. I assume, he was trying to catch me. I'd gotten into 5th and had already dropped 10 or 20 mph when my V1 went off. A quick glance up showed me that the hit was pretty strong and behind me. Because I had just rounded a bend, the only vehicle I could see behind me was the truck. I hit my brakes and dropped down to 50-55. I still couldn't see anything that looked like LEO, but there wasn't anything else that it could be and the next closest vehicles were quite a ways back still.

I drove on for a mile or so with the occasional hit on the V1. We got to a section where the speed limit dipped to 40 so I dropped down to 40-45 feeling careful and lucky that my little blast didn't seem to have been seen. By this time, the truck had caught up to me and was slightly ahead of me and running the speed limit. We both got stopped at a light. I noticed in the group of cars that were nearly at the light, there was a white SUV that looked like it was the source of the hit. It was low key, but almost certainly a LEO of some sort.

I was chatting with my wife when I noticed the truck that was now beside me goosed his throttle once. I wasn't interested and just kept talking. When the light turned green, he power-braked and smoked his tires through the intersection. Yeah, not a good idea when there's a constable 3-4 cars back. I don't think he's having a good day. The constable tapped his air horn and went around the other cars behind the truck in the turn lane and then lit the guy in the truck up. I wouldn't have raced the guy in the truck anyway, but it is still nice to know what's going on around you before you can see it.
