if i were to go with a non programmable unit, is it build to have the exact same timing as the original cdi on the car? It seems to me like the msd controls are universal units which has me wondering what timing they are set up for.

I would like to rebuild/modify most of my car to have it competitive in the class i am entering and I dont think that I want to replace the ignition control with one that uses '80s technology when I am able to run a newer higher quality modern unit like the ones made by msd without going as far as converting the ignition system to a coil on plug. I am looking for the best ignition control unit (in terms of performance and cost) that I can replace the thirty year old bosch cdi with. And to me it seems as though that would be one that you can adjust for the exact specs of the car. If people think that a non-programmable unit is more precise please let me know and if you would be kind enough to explain why that would be much appreciated.
thanks

i was just thinking, is the main benefit to running a programmable unit to set up a map for boost timing? Im not running turbos, so does that defeat the purpose of the programmable ignition?
