I live in Boston and bought mine on Long Island. A good Pre-Purchase Inspection made sure that the mechanical "surprises" were minimal.
I would not limit yourself to looking locally. Driving a few hours to look at a car is worth it.
Those sites that NoStatic listed are the same that I looked through and found my SC on.
