The wife and I go to the same local restaurant every year on News Years Day. They bring a small cup of black eyed peas to everyone but I always order some more as one of my two side dishes.
Eating black eyed peas on News Years Day are supposed to bring good luck all year. I like black eyed peas so eating them today is not a real burden.
It is like saying drinking a beer on the first day of the year brings good luck. I managed to drink a beer or two today as well.
