It's a hole in the middle of the firewall, not the edge. It was to be able to mess with the fan and alternator belt on the six-cylinder motor that used to be in there, I'm pretty sure. Or was it "going to be there"? I forget if he actually did run it with a Six or not...
There actually were holes in the firewall at both ends. They were to pass the suspension bracing through, and they were closed up again afterwards.
