Dan,

Here is the secret:

Find a local guy and work for free until you can do it on your own.

It ALWAYS comes down to money. If you have the money and time to hang out and work for free.. the learning curve is cut in half. I used to drive 4 hours one way to work with a fab guy for free many years ago. I didnt know jack about suspension/setup/fab/welding/jigs/fixtures. If I hadnt been living with my girlfriend and sharing a house with her (now my wife) I would have lived in his shop and did nothing but learn. Its a passion that comes from deep inside. You either have it or you dont. You either sacrifice or sit back and watch. This stuff is not taught in any school. Your learn from watching and doing small tasks until they become big tasks.

I have taught 4 people over the last 6 months how to use our Miller Mig welder. I taught them in less than 20 minutes. It's all practice after that. I give them small jobs and they dont get paid... they learn.

Sound like fun ??

My current fabricator is self taught. Tony rocks.
