I do a combination of these.
My cat is very friendly, but does not like being picked up, being held or sitting on a lap. So, we capture her and wrap her in a towel. You then grasp the scruff of the neck and this hep the cat go kind of limp.
I think the flea medication burns on the skin, because she hates it. Pill are very difficult, but the grasping the scruff helps. You need to push pills down the throat, otherwise they will spit them out.
