As Alex said. If you get hassled getting the car registered (i.e. RIV changes their mind and requires the letter, not unheard of) start calling any dealership in the US. Usually you can get something faxed within an hour or so, at no charge. I always offer to pay for a 1/2 hour of labour, and they always say don't worry about it.
If RIV does change their mind, demand an extension on the deadline to get registered, as you were told one thing, then another.
