I wanted a conservative looking head unit for my 84 -- one that sort of matched the spartan interior but still had sufficient sound quality to make the twisties that much more fun! I ended up buying the Blaupunkt Heidelberg. I know Blaupunkt's reputation is pretty middle-of-the-road these days, but the look of the Heidelberg, and its reasonable cost, is what sold me (along with its fairly decent sound reproduction). It has some graphics on it, but most can be eliminated using a menu. It looks great in the dash...not too flashy. Here's a picture:
Also, you can add a steering wheel remote that allows you to keep both hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
Are there better head units out there? Absolutely. All things considered (price, looks, sound quality), however, I'm pretty happy with the unit.
