Dad's Chair

When I was growing up, my Dad had a layzboy (or equivalent). That was his chair. You better not sit in it, leave stuff on it, etc. He didn't sit on the couch, we didn't sit in his chair. Sometimes we would but only if he wasn't home. The chair was also strategically placed to see the whole room and down the hall...keep an eye on everything. Then again, the house was small.

I have no such chair in my house and my L shaped couch is a disaster. My favorite seat is everyone else's favorite seat. The kids (5 and 3) have fallen asleep and peed on that cushion. It's been washed. The damn dog sits on that seat as well sometimes. Half the time I can't sit on the couch because the kid's stuff is on it. Drives me nuts.

I'm thinking it's time for Dad's chair in my house. Maybe electrified....

Did you have such a concept in your house growing up? Or now?
