I am in the middle of trying to figure out how to get 2000 square feet worth of shop equipment into a 1.5 car garage. I can honestly say it is an engineering feat downsizing.
I had a full size shop before for my race car with four roll up doors, 30' ceilings, plus a mezzanine and now have moved into a historic neighbored where even having a garage is a rarity. Actually it is a carriage house really. Other major issues are no water or sewer, no decent power, low ceilings, see through walls (read very old barn), no heat.....
I am running aerial power lines to bring 100 AMP 220 but water and sewer are going to be a big challenge. I now have two propane heaters, as with just one as soon as a breeze kicked up all the heat would dump out the walls, two seems to keep up! Air compressor will be outside for sapce and noise (80 gal 10 HP), lots of racks etc... still going to be tough and no options for a lift without raising the roof! I will be sacrificing some of my equipment for sure such as band saws and belt sanders etc....
Well at least me 71' Tarmac Rally Car is under roof!
