No exceptions to the rules when it comes to handling of firearms... The organization I teach with we've had ZERO (read that: 0) issues of injury. Safety always comes first with firearms.
In that light: The LEO should know not to leave a firearm where it can be easily handled; ESPECIALLY IF THERE IS A KID IN THE HOUSE.
Now keep in mind you have a 7 year old kid. It is your discretion but teaching them at a young age the responsibility and caution in regards to firearms would be a good idea. Just make sure they understand that the firearm cannot do anything of it's own accord -- it will only do what you make it do.
